Mark your calendars early.  The Greater Manistee Area U-M Alumni Club is again sponsoring a U-M Women’s Glee Club Concert on May 5th at the West Shore Community College Center Stage Theater.

The WGC tour is sparsely funded so we are looking for host families from the Manistee and Ludington area who can take two girls for the night of the 5th.  If you can help, please email Joanna Collins (collij1946@yahoo.com) or call 231-723-4844.

Below is a little bit about the Glee Club.  You can find out more at http://www.umich.edu/~wgc/

About the WGC

WGC and Big MThe University of Michigan Women's Glee Club is a choral ensemble representing undergraduate and graduate women from diverse fields across the U of M campus. Composed primarily of non-music majors, WGC gives female students the opportunity to express their love of music through performance, community outreach and travel. As a club, WGC allows students to meet a wide Gleevariety of friends who share a common interest in music. Founded in 1893, the WGC has a long history of enriching the university community and the lives of our hundreds of alumna. As we look to the past for inspiration, the members of the Women's Glee Club focus on the future and strive to become an enduring tradition at the University of Michigan.

Annual Dinner Meeting

Celebrating local leaders and best, the University of Michigan Club of the Manistee Area met at Portage Point Inn on Wednesday June 15, 2011 for their Annual Dinner Meeting.

The recent accomplishments of three area Alumni were recognized by the Club.  For their individual achievements, the Club acknowledged Mary Wahr, Kim Carlson and Cameron Clark.   Wahr’s fractal art work has been included in two national exhibits and will be presented in a Bridges exhibit in Portugal later this year. Carlson has been actively involved in a critically needed inner-city health clinic program in Detroit.  Clark was honored as one of three finalists for Outstanding Administrator of 2010 by the Michigan Association of Public School Academies.

Included in the program were the three local scholarship recipients: Chelsea Lister, Ludington High School; Zak Payne, Manistee High School; and Joe Guerra, Mesick High School.

Community Service Day!
Join us for some physical and civic exercise……we are cleaning up our section of the MDOT "Adopt a Highway" program. Meet in the parking lot of the Manistee National Resort (Hotel lot) at 1PM. Our section is the east and west side of US 31 from County Line Rd to Preuss Rd.

It’s GREAT to be a Manistee Area Wolverine!

On Friday October 15, 2010 President Dave Wild accepted an Award of Excellence for Student Relations at one of the Alumni Association’s Homecoming events on behalf of the Club.  During the past year the Manistee Club has promoted student activities, programs, and recruitment efforts which garnered the Club the Outstanding recognition.   Everyone deserves a pat on the back for this group effort.  Thanks to all who helped with the student events that included; bringing the Solar Car Team to Manistee for the 4th of July parade, the student send off picnic, establishing high school contacts for potential students, a pizza gathering over the holiday break.
